What I've learned five years into healing from my Autoimmune Diseases.
I’ve been a little off the radar the last few years because, honestly, healing is a full-time job. And now that I’m nearly five years into this journey, it feels like the right time to share a few things that have made it just a little easier.
A bit of backstory, because I wiped most of this from my page a long time ago. Partly out of defiance. I didn’t want this bump in the road to define me. But the truth is, this is a forever kind of journey, so here we are.
In 2021, I went to the doctor because I genuinely didn’t feel well. I felt a little unhinged asking for labs, but my gut told me something wasn’t right. Turns out, it wasn’t. I walked away with a handful of undiagnosed autoimmune diseases, which was very much not on my bingo card that year.
The timing felt cruel. I was newly married and kickstarting my career, and there was absolutely no space to be navigating uncharted territory. Joke’s on me though, because the years that followed reshaped my entire life.
I’ll fast forward through the blurry parts and spare you the nitty gritty. Instead, here’s what I wish I had known from the beginning.
Surround yourself with the right care team.
And I don’t just mean your primary care doctor or the specialists you’re referred to, but the ones who listen, advocate, and walk alongside you. Find your people.
Nutrition matters more than you think.
I’ve made real, measurable progress by changing the way I eat. This is the hill I will absolutely die on.
Rest is non-negotiable.
God designed our bodies to need it. Your body cannot heal if you don’t give it the space to rest. Slowing down isn’t failure, and sometimes it’s the most faithful thing you can do.
Play the long game.
Getting to the root of the problem takes time and so much work, but it will change your life. If I had to bet on it, it’ll change your family’s life too.
And don’t forget this: Your life and your body are a gift.
I’ve cried the tears and felt the anger. At myself, my body, life, and even God. But even in the valley, He never left. Navigating any kind of health challenge is heavy, mentally and physically, but God does not make mistakes.
I don’t have all the answers, but I do have evidence of God’s faithfulness. Nearly five years in, the data doesn’t lie. The long game works.
Hang in there, friend. ❤️ I’m praying 2026 brings you peace, strength, and continued healing.
